Simon Hampson is the host and producer of Symbiosis on Triple R FM. After an eight-year involvement in community radio he finally took the leap of faith and snared his own show in 2002. Symbiosis focuses broadly on ‘sound textures' – think cinematic ambience, field recordings, glitched beats and you're close. But don't assume anything and make sure you bring your headphones.
Simon was born in Manchester in 1978 and grew up on its outskirts until he was 13. He was classically trained in violin and piano from 4 years old.
However, it wasn't until his relocation to Australia in late 1991 that music and sound took on a life changing significance. Upon first arriving in Melbourne, the radio became a constant companion.
Melbourne's rich undercurrent of music and the arts found him. Being exposed to the new surrounds of Melbourne also opened the door to an appreciation of sound.
Upon hearing Alan Lamb's 'Night Passage' in the mid-90s, Simon began to explore this strange world of experimental sound. He hasn't looked back..
